A typical second-trimester ultrasound used in low-risk pregnancies is called a Level 1 scan. Another name for it is a survey examination for fetal anatomy. The thickness of the nuchal fold, a region of tissue near the back of the unborn child's neck, is also measured during a Level 1 scan. When a pregnancy is between weeks 11 and 14, a Level 1 scan is done. It assesses the health of the developing fetus and the extent of the pregnancy. In low-risk pregnancies, the conventional second-trimester scan, sometimes referred to as a "level I," is a straightforward fetal anatomic survey assessment. This examination is occasionally referred to as a "screening ultrasound" or a "Level 1 ultrasound." The purpose of the ultrasound at this point in the pregnancy is to ensure there is adequate amniotic fluid, to look at the placenta's placement, and to ensure the baby is growing normally. Additionally, it can search for severe birth abnormalities.
