A detailed anatomy ultrasound is recommended during pregnancy, between 18 and 22 weeks gestation.1 Sometimes known as an anatomy scan, or anomaly scan, the aim of this imaging is for your provider to gather information about your baby's development. level II ultrasound, also known as a fetal anatomical survey, is recommended for almost all pregnant women. It is similar to a standard ultrasound, except it provides more detailed information. During the level II ultrasound, your doctor will examine your baby’s organs, brain, umbilical cord, gender and more. Your amniotic fluid level will also be measured along with your baby’s heart rate and size. Birth defects can also be detected during the test. Level II ultrasounds are typically scheduled during the second trimester and are conducted just like a normal ultrasound.
